Koheket Ecclesiastes 11:3 CJB
If the clouds are full of rain, they empty themselves on the earth.
Whether a tree falls toward the north or the south, the place where it falls is where it stays.
Preface
This short passage of Scripture by King Solomon reveals some timeless spiritual wisdom that each of us may draw from in our spiritual efforts to emulate our Loving Creator’s very nature throughout our lives.
God’s Sovereignty over His Created Order and Creatures
“The sovereignty of God is the one impregnable rock to which the suffering human heart must cling.” – A.W. Tozer
First and foremost, God’s sovereignty is self-evident in this passage, for He is the Creator of the natural and supernatural realms. The rain, trees, and all created living souls function according to His divine providence.
Under His supernatural control of maintaining nature and humanity, all of the events under the sun, happen by His divine decree. We who are wise should learn to accept the frequently hidden yet unfolding painful series of this life’s events without extreme anxiety or resistance.
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.” Revelation 4:11
This gift of life essentially guarantees that we all will experience its multifaced uncertainties. Just as none of us can predict one hundred percent, what direction a falling tree will land, such is it with our lives, it too is even more unpredictable, and so full of suspicion.
We are to be encouraged to faithfully seek God’s wisdom at all times while embracing His endearing grace and mercy, thus having the willful determination to learn to make the most of every moment of our lives.
For Adonai gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He stores common sense for the upright and is a shield to those whose conduct is blameless, to guard the courses of justice and preserve the way of those faithful to Him. Mishlei Proverbs 2:6-8
The Spirit of Stewardship
“Stewardship is not about owning everything but about managing everything for the Owner – God.” – R.C. Sproul
The citizens of the earth, the vegetation, the various bodies of water, and even the deserts, are deserving and needed benefactors of the clouds pouring rain down from the sky. Within chapter 11 of Ecclesiastes, we can appreciate the importance of God’s sense of stewardship within His divine economy.
All of earth’s resources innately belong to our Creator within His divine design. The Godly wisdom within this last portion of the sacred text is to remind each of us of the spiritual wisdom and blessings of using and sharing God’s resources for those who are without basic human resources.
Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. 2 Cor. 9:11
Closing thoughts and reflections.
Believing in God’s sovereignty often comes with a well-crafted spiritual moral and ethical framework of thoughts and actions. The recognition that one is a steward of God’s creation encourages faithful individuals to act responsibly and ethically in their interactions with others and the environment.
A matured spiritual-based belief in God’s sovereignty, stewardship, and personal responsibility can foster a sense of compassion and empathy. Recognizing that all people are part of God’s creation may lead to a greater willingness to help and support others in need. Amen
